Using Covidone Throat Spray

  • Covidone Throat Spray may be used up to 4x per day.
  • Use Covidone as advised by your doctor.
  • Covidone should not be used more than 7 days consecutively unless otherwise recommended by your doctor.
When not to use Covidone Throat Spray

Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient, with thyroid disease, pregnant and breastfeeding, are using hydrogen peroxide, or before and after radioiodine therapy. The use of products containing silver, taurolidine, and lithium may interact with povidone iodine and should not be used at the same time. Likewise, the concomitant use of mercury may lead to the formation of a substance that may damage the skin.

Directions for Use

  1. Open the bottle and unpack the spray device.
  2. Insert the sprayer into the bottle.
  3. Rotate the sprayer clockwise to tighten.
  4. Direct the nozzle toward the affected area in the throat.
  5. Apply 2-3 sprays up to 4x a day while saying “Aaah” and without breathing in (liquid may get into the lungs).
  6. Let liquid stay in the throat for 15 seconds.
  7. Spit out excess fluid. No need to rinse.

Use for seven days or as prescribed by your doctor. Supervise children six years old and above.

For children below six years old, consult your doctor. Consult your physician if sore throat persists for more than two days and if you have worsening symptoms like fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Do not use it if the cap seal is broken or after the expiry date.

The activity of povidone-iodine is reduced in the presence of alkali, hydrogen peroxide, taurolidine, tannic acid, acetylsalicylic acid, all silver, bismuth, and mercury salts.

Special Precautions and Side Effects:

  • Swallowing small amounts may not cause side effects, but if swallowed accidentally in large amounts, you may experience abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, not being able to urinate, suffocation, or difficulty of breathing. Immediately consult your healthcare professional. As with all medications, side effects may occur. If mucosal irritation, swelling, itching, redness, or rash occur, discontinue use. Immediately consult with a healthcare provider.
  • Braces or dentures can sometimes become discolored. Remove if possible before use. The teeth, skin, as well as fabric, may also be stained. You may clean off the stained fabric with ammonia diluted with water and rubbing alcohol for stained skin.
  • Avoid contact with jewelry, especially silver.
  • Avoid using the spray near heat or flame as it is flammable.
  • Special attention must be given after the end of treatment to the early symptoms of possible overactive thyroid and, if necessary, the monitoring of thyroid function tests.
  • Detection of occult (invisible) blood in feces and urine may interfere with the results and provide a false positive test.
  • If the product gets into the eyes, immediately rinse or wash eyes with water and consult with an ophthalmologist if severe irritation occurs.
  • Keep out of children’s reach.
  • Always check with your healthcare provider if you have any other medical conditions, if you take any medicines for other conditions, or if you currently have or have ever had kidney problems.
  • Always inform your physician that you are using Covidone throat spray. If you do not understand the instructions on the label, ask your physician or pharmacist for help.
